Saturday morning, March 2. Wind from the NNW, 10-15 kts or so, and there’s no one to shoo us kayakers away—even from Greenwich, CT. (Gotta love “off-season.” Cold water, gray skies, and all!) We launched from Grassy Island, rounded Greenwich Point Beach, looped around 1881 Stamford Harbor Lighthouse, then did the reverse. The days are getting longer, you can feel a definite shift. In the words of lighthouse keeper John J. Cook, 1908: What more soul-stirring music could there be than that of wind and wave as they whistle and roar or moan and swish past our little home? And that light up aloft is a sermon in itself.

You don’t need a chart to know you’re in Greenwich
Alex concludes his drysuit doesn’t leak, his polartec “onesie” is enough for 37-degree water, and you are warmer if you let your legs float on the surface. (Yep, he’s an engineer.)
