I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

This photo is from last summer, at Olympic National Park; Washington. Wish we were there! See more interpretations of this week’s photo challenge, Wish 🙂 🙂
How beautiful, Jean. Love that photo and the poem.
Thanks, Cheri. See you very soon!!!!!!

Not only do I wish to go down to the sea again, I’m on my way right now. It’s a cool 90 F here today and staying that way for the rest of the week, so “off we must go” to where the water is warm and dolphins are friendly.
Have fun, Ian! We look forward to reading all about it 🙂 🙂
What a gorgeous poem framing your image! The Sea is absolutely essential.
We send you hugs warm greetings from Cley next the sea, it’s so good to be back home again. 🙂
Welcome home! Are you actually seeking your next seaside residence? Big hugs from us snowbound paddlers 🙂 🙂
That line has such a ring to it, doesn’t it: “I must go down to the sea again…” And if and when you get back in this neck of the woods, do get in touch – I have time on my side now and would love to meet (I will do the same next time we come to NY).
Hi there, Lyn! So great to hear from you. Will you be in WA around the end of July? We will 🙂 🙂 I haven’t seen posts of blogger pals who meet in person… I think it would be a wonderful idea!!
I’ve seen a few posts from meetings – can’t think of exactly who and when – and I met someone myself – in New York, quite a while ago. Patti Fogarty of Nylon Daze. She doesn’t post much on WP these days – she does mainly street photography. I loved meeting her. As far as I know, I should be here – we don’t make plans that far in advance too often. Be sure to let me know again, like maybe a month before, OK? Where will you be – San Juans? I haven’t even been up there yet!!
Yes, the San Juans! And hopefully, Hood River in a surfski too: Wheeeeeeee!!!
