8:20 a.m., second Sunday in March. Air temps 34F but headed for a balmy 50F (water’s still freezing but…oh, never mind!), wind barely 10k from the NW (offshore per our POV), Daylight Savings Time to kick in at 2:00 a.m.—who could resist paddling today?! Certainly not us 2geeks, Jim, Rick, Andrew, and Alan. Destination: City Island.

Jim (framed by a pair of resident swans) couldn’t resist a stretch/snooze near Glen Island Park.

Waffles at Sugar & Spice

With berries AND powdered sugar? Yes, please.
Even our non-winter-paddling friends couldn’t say “no” to brunch at Sugar & Spice.
Gary, Ivy, Erin and Luke met us in their perfectly stylish (dry) outfits to make a cheerful table of ten. As we planned pool sessions and camping trips, it was tempting to believe winter will soon be behind us. Relaunching, we met some local kids who couldn’t resist jumping the gun on summer.

Drysuits vs swimsuits. We dressed for the water (always anticipating capsize); some local kids dressed per today’s warmer breezes (anticipating summer). None of us swam—at least, not for long!
Rick, Andrew and Alan paddled back to their launch site at Orchard Beach. But warm wind and sun tempted us 2geeks to take the long way home around Davids’, Pea, and Huckleberry Islands (a nice, much-needed 15 NM paddle!) A family of wintering seals gave in to their natural curiosity about boats. A dozen heads followed us—popping up, sniffing, then disappearing—before we could get very good photos or video of them. Oh well. We can’t help but post them anyway.
Nice Day for a Paddle… And good looking Brunch!!!
Good tasting, too! Should’ve gotten a shot of the herb-dusted (dusted!) french fries… the definition of irresistible. Thx so much for the visit! J&A
That first shot is great, really shows the temptation you are talking about 🙂
Your idyllic paddles continue to buoy sinking spirits, not to mention the uplifting waffles.

Thanks, Michael. The waffles are easier to order up than the calm weather we’ve been having. Lucky!
