Rarely do we have to travel far to glimpse the wild. (Or even get out of our bathrobes, for that matter!) Here was the scene outside our bedroom window a few mornings ago, around 5:30. (Click white arrow for video):
Kuno, our domestically-hatched, hand-fed pet parrot and “gravatar,” wasn’t so wild about it…

Kuno is a very smart bird! 😉
Very smart—but not traumatized, we hope!

Hi! Thanks for linking our wildness 🙂 I really love your post on the Galapagos!
Fabulous you have the osprey so close! And I bet your parrot is endlessly entertaining.
Hi! We are very lucky, yes. And you’re right about Kuno being endlessly entertaining: at 19, he says a lot of things, in context. For example, “Gotta go to WORK!” when I put on my coat in the morning; and he talks about various foods as I prepare them (“corn”, “cookie” = kibble; “citrus” = orange. Are you familiar with the famous grey, ALEX, (Avian Language Experiment) of Dr. Irene Pepperberg? The grey could count, distinguish between “same” and “different” objects, and he was correct 98% of the time. Here is a short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yGOgs_UlEc
And sadly, his obituary… in the New York Times!!

Aww, Kuno is adorable! Just catching up on past posts, it’s been a busy year on the road! xxx Ailsa
Welcome back! We’ve been enjoying your travel posts very much. Kuno the Adorable, too. 🙂
